Dishub: LRT Project will Be Continued After Long Pause

Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) Head, Syafrin Liputo asserted that the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project would continue.

"No regulatory obstacles related to the LRT construction. Everything has gone according to plan, but it got stuck due to Jakarta's fiscal capacity as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic," he expressed, Thursday (11/3).

According to him, it requires in-depth analysis because it involves several factors. For instance land use, projections of potential future passengers, and funding models.

"It's still in the process of being studied," he explained.

He explained that the regulations prepared since 2015 regarding Electronic Road Pricing (ERP), which is one of the policies in the push and pull strategy mechanism in transportation.

Aside that, the government is also implementing policies that can control the mobility of residents with private vehicles through push strategies such as controlling parking rates, odd-even, and ERP.

However, the ERP system is still constrained by regulations. Thus far, the Jakarta Provincial Government and Legislative Council (DPRD) are still focused on drafting the Bylaw on Electronic Traffic Control (PLLSE) which has entered the final stage.

It was expected to be the legal basis for ERP implementation in Jakarta, thus it becomes a solution to parse congestion in Jakarta.
